Updates

It's been about a month since I decided I would not get a haircut nor shave my facial hair and this sucks. I cant wait for January 1st, but its worth it in the long run. My dad bet me I couldn't go until then so If I do, I get $100.00 which I will donate to a charity or spend the $100.00 on grocery's, make food and pass it out to the homeless. I look like shit and feel like shit...heres what I look likeand NO the glasses aren't part of the deal but come one, look at how sweet those look!

2. After struggling to get the video footage of the SupaDupa Marimba boys up (Portland Saturday Market entry), I have finally managed to do so. I'm going to post the shortest one here and if your interested go to my youtube page and you can watch the rest.

The Man Behind the Mask

You had to know it was coming. Perry Moore, the man behind "The Chronicles of Narnia", has come out with a new book. This book is sure to raise some eyebrows and be the talk of many to come at it has already been picked up by the makers of Spiderman to make it to the big screen. The books name...Hero. The part that makes it open to scrutiny is that the "hero" is openly Gay, as is Perry Moore. I'm not saying I have anything against this, lord knows I try to keep this blog unbiased, I'm saying that is "Brokeback Mountain" received such an uproar, what will a movie that kids will want to go see bring. I haven't read the book nor do I plan on it, "fantasy" type material just doesn't appeal to me. But if you've read it or plan on it, let me know. Answer the poll with as well, I want to know what other people think, and it is anonymous, I wont even know who voted for what.

Come on Panda

Who needs a Range Rover when you can have a Panda. With a name like that it could be the ugliest thing possible and still be cute. Check out this video of the Land Rover Range Rover vs. the Fiat Panda. Its quite remarkable what this little mammal can do at a price of just over $19,000 versus that of the Range at $77,800.

Great Googly Moogly

Holy jumpin jehoshaphat this is the greatest thing I've ever seen, well not really but its pretty damn amazing. Now that I'm living back at home I took it upon myself to splurge the family fortune a little (if only there was one), I upgraded to 10MB service from Cox and I am not disappointed. Usually when I "upgrade" internet service I end up disappointed because I know it could be faster and I want it to be faster. Well I still know it can be faster but I'm perfectly ok with it being what it is for the meantime. I am pleased to say that I am satisfied with my internet connection so bring on the customer feedback questionnaires Cox, nothing but good reviews on the internet side of it from me!

Helio! Helio! Helio!

Last night it all came to an end...another season of ABC's hit reality show "Dancing With the Stars". I was without cable for much of this season so I only got to see the last two episodes. In case you don't know Helio Castroneves took home the hardware. Let's all be honest, thats who we wanted to win...1) because hes just awesome and 2) because he was dancing with the hottest girl, Julianne Hough.

Congratulations go out to Helio but more importantly to Julianne, this is her second season on the show and her second title, last year with Apolo Anton Ohno. Which begs the question...Is she that good? There's only 2 ways to find out.
  1. Somehow she can make me look good dancing
  2. She wins it again next year
Since we both UNFORTUNATELY know that number 1 MOST LIKELY will not happen, the only way to find out is to watch next season

Professional Athletes

As most of you who follow sports know, The Redskins safety who had 5 interceptions this year, Sean Taylor, died earlier this morning due to a gunshot wound. All who knew him said he had finally started changing his life for the better. What I don't understand is why professional athletes in any sports don't think logically. We always hear about athletes getting caught doping, or in possession of marijuana, or crashing their Lamborghini's into light poles, and recently shootings. It started with Darrent Williams getting shot earlier this year on New Years, and now Sean Taylor. Both dead in the peak of their NFL careers.

One could say that athletes are young and doing what young people do, having fun. I don't think this is the case because if we take a relative sample of people in accordance to the percentage of athletes caught doping or on drugs or getting in trouble, it would translate to nearly 1 out of every 4 friends you and I have, would be doing the same thing. I just cant seem to buy this theory. I think that these athletes are making too much money and letting it get to their heads. They think that they are invincible, more so than celebrities. It's great to think that but you also have to realize that you really aren't and that its ok to have fun but there is a limit.

Its simple, your paid a ridiculous amount of money to do one thing and one thing only. With today's talent out there, the average carer in sports is roughly 10 years unless you are one of the best (I.E. Brett Favre, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Lebron James), you know the "name brand" players. Otherwise you have your peak and you are forgotten about slowly. So basically you have 10 years where you get to be a kid and play sports, its almost every persons dream. Heres what every professional athlete needs to do:
  1. Invest your money!
  2. Stay at the top of your game and perform at the highest level
  3. Keep out of the negative public eye
  4. When you retire if invested properly your 12million + should be at least 30million
  5. Spend your money!
If you have an affinity for marijuana, take your money AFTER your retirement and move to South America and grow your own weed and smoke until you cant smoke anymore. As a professional athlete you are the role model of millions of children around the world, act that way.

Its a shame Sean Taylor started changing his life so late.

Its Finally Done

My longest "road trip" to date has just come to an end. It is a road trip that spanned a week, while not driving everyday the week, I still consider it a week long road trip with a short plane ride in between. So it goes a little something like this:

  • Friday (11/16) Portland to Reno
  • Saturday/Sunday (11/16 / 11/17) Reno to Las Vegas

Then after a plane ride on Monday morning back to Portland:
  • Tuesday (11/20) Portland to Klamath Falls, OR
  • Wednesday (11/21) Klamath Falls, OR to Reno
  • Thursday (11/22) Reno to Sunnyvale, CA
  • Saturday (11/24) Sunnyvale, CA to Las Vegas

A total of 2333.77 miles. I don't even want to calculate how much I spent on gas, lets just say my bank account it close to empty :(

Now the real reason I did all this is for a reason almost none of you know. In fact only 2 people know...you see I took the truck below, a 26' Uhaulon a scavenger hunt to find all my belongings and move them all back to Las Vegas. Thats right, after 5 years of being out of this city, I am finally back to this oasis in the desert. Thanks to Joel for taking the amazingly boring drive from Portland to Vegas in the Uhaul with me.

Thanksgiving

I've always heard that Thanksgiving is about Friends and Family. Well for me its always been Family, and to be honest I'm getting sick and tired of it. It's always the same fucking shit when I come to The Bay Area, "Omid, you need to lose weight", "Omid, stop eating", "Omid fucking do this, fucking do that." Last night I had 20 people lecture me on how I should or should not have facial hair. On top of that I asked if I could help with anything only to get laughed at...as if I'm no good. The last 3 times I have come here have been nothing but hell, to the point where I just want to get up and leave. Fuck the turkey and everything else, it's not worth it if i have to come here. If it wasn't for my 95 year old aunt I wouldn't even come. And to think I passed up going to Phoenix.

The best part of Thanksgiving anyways isn't the dinner, its the leftovers for the next week. I can't believe that I'm 23 years old and I get lectured like I'm a 10 year old kid. On MY weight, on MY appearance, on MY schooling, on MY truck. It's like everyone just comes here to lecture me as a means of making themselves feel better about themselves.

When can I spend the holidays with Friends and NOT Family?

It has come to my attention that people do not know how to drive A)in the fog and B) at night. I'm not saying I'm the authority of driving but I do know some stuff. Lets start out with driving in the fog:
  1. Use your fog lights if you have them. (thats what they are for)
  2. DO NOT turn on your high beams on!
Thats all I have to say about driving in the fog. Now night time driving is a different story:
  1. Just because your in an area that doesn't have street lights does not entitle you to use your high-beams whenever you want!
  2. When you come within 100 yards of another vehicle, TURN YOUR HIGH-BEAMS OFF!
  3. No matter what the message it is NEVER appropriate to flash your high-beams at another car when your 3 feet away.
  4. Please wait until you have completely passed the car you are passing before you turn your high-beams back on.
For some reason people have seemed to forget these rules of driving at night. Its irritating, annoying and just plain stupid. I'm tired of being blinded by fucking jack asses who think they own the road. Learn how to fucking drive!

Pats Vs. Bills

UPSET ALERT!!! You heard it here first, tonight on Sunday night football, the Pats will fall at the hands of the Buffalo Bills. No score prediction but remember you heard it here first

Bills over the Pats

Enjoy the game

Legitimacy

The Green Bay Packers ARE Legit! Don't be surprised to see these guys go deep into the playoffs. Favre is on fire having arguably one of the best seasons of his life, who would have thought this kid who's first NFL completion was to himself...yes thats right his first pass thrown in the NFL was tipped at the line and caught by himself. He plays reckless, he plays with heart, he plays just how you would expect him to. And admit it or not, you love him, you love his story, you love watching him, face it, theres nothing NOT to like about him except when he beats your team. And best of all the Packers always play on Thanksgiving, a little turkey...a little Favre...too much Madden...life is good!

Monday

I didn't do shit today. Went to Nicolas for lunch, for those of you who don't know, Nicolas is a restaurant that has probably the best Lebanese food this side of the Atlantic Ocean. It's so good I plan on going there at least once more this week and once next week if not more.

Other than that, I just stayed home, watched the Seahawks beat the Niners and touched up some of my pictures that I will be having printed soon. I don't plan on becoming a professional photographer by any means but I love taking photos and making them look great. A few of my photos however will be hanging in a Dentist's office so thats kinda cool. I'm going to find a way to post some on here other than the standard way I have been posting them so stay tuned.

Mavricks Vs. Blazers

I was privileged enough to go to my first NBA game last night. Nick Fazekas, #20 on the Mavericks, was kind enough to get me tickets for the game. I can't complain about the seating, they weren't court seats but they were far from nose bleeds. In fact I think they were a perfect level to see the whole game without having to move too much. In fact they were good enough that I got offered $100 from a scalper for them. Thats a first, usually the scalper asks if you need tickets, not if he can buy yours.

Unfortunately for the Mavericks, They didn't win, it was kind of a lopsided win that the scoreboard wont show. The Blazers will be good this year with or without Greg Oden, makes you wonder what he will bring to the team when he is healthy. Fortunately for myself however because the Mavericks were pretty much out of it I got to see Nick get some PT. He only played about a minute but came away with 2 boards and 2 points, not bad for one minute, and a paycheck of about $5,243.90 per game. I did happen to get one of his rebounds and his 2 points on film...so here they are. Click anywhere other than the play arrow in the middle to open on a bigger (youtube) screen.

Portland Saturday Market

For some reason there was no college football being shown here in Portland on the channels I get so I decided to stumble downtown and go to my first Saturday Market in years. There were hoards of people just out having a good time. It's amazing what vendors try and sell these day, one guy was selling postcards with simple letters drawn on in sharpie marker for $2.00 each. His cost...less than $0.02.

Vendors lined the street to sell food from all over the world. From Africa, to the South, to Vietnam, to Greece, to Thailand...which is where I picked up a plate of Pad Thai with a Thai Iced Tea for $5.50, what a deal, the food was amazing. It wasn't just the food from the Thailand booth that was cheap, the food everywhere was cheap, it took me a few minutes to decide between the Thai or the $2.00 huge corn dog, in the end it was the Thai Iced Tea that was the deciding factor for me.

The thing that really made Saturday Market was the music, from one handed guitarists to a 12 year old boy playing a drum, the streets were lined with musicians everywhere. In the food court however was where the main stage was and thats where I met the SupaDupa Marimba Boys. They met each other 5 years ago at the Portland MLC (Metropolitan Learning Center) and have been making music ever since. They play Zimbabwean music and its just all around enjoyable. They look like they enjoy what they do and are good doing it. The best thing was that they would take turn playing each instrument, and they felt at home on each one. I just happened to have my camera with me, so I shot some footage, unfortunately my camera shoots in MPEG-4 and at an "ultra high quality" and so the files which are shot in 840x480 wide screen are about 200+ MB a piece, so I had to spend hours converting them so I can post them, and after doing so they look like shit, so just take my word that they were awesome.

This is a Big Problem in America Today...

It has come to my attention that there is a new up and coming threat to the youth of America. I believe that this is something that everyone needs to be made aware of so that we can help put this problem away. The problem is this, Cyberbullying. Yes thats right, its not bad that kids have to face loosing their lunch money at school or being thrown into trash cans anymore, now they have to worry about the humiliation of being bullied on the net. Please just watch the following ad and vow to yourselves and to the youth of this country that YOU will not Cyberbully anyone for any reason.

This is a true story

Today has been a weird day so far. I started out by watching an awesome show on FX, I have no idea what it was, American armed forces where in Pakistan fighting Somalians...looked on tv guide, and it says I was watching King of the Hill, which clearly can't be it unless this tv writers strike is changing television that drastically.

Went to Big Town Hero and got probably one of the best sandwiches ever, I'm sure it was the onion bread that made it, but it was delectable.

Decided to drive for a while, and came across a park...Forest Park, took a 4 mile hike and enjoyed every second of it.

Went to a French pastry house, enjoyed a orange sparkling lemonade and an amazing strawberry pastry. Then a Persian gentlemen came and sat down next to me, I didn't take much notice until he started talking on the phone in Farsi. Anyways I'm not going to bore you with what he said because there is a lot of background information one would have to know to understand the connections between this guy and myself. After a while I decide to leave...I get into my car and see him running out, he gets into his car and starts following me recklessly for about 25minutes until I could shake him from my tail. I have no idea what the fuck is going on, but my heart hadn't beat that fast since I was in a high speed chase a few years back.

And thats where this day stands at now...6:59pm

Phillips Bodygroom

WOW! This little bastard just does it all. I was walking through Costco trying to find something to buy so I can get cash back and use that cash to purchase a delectable hot dog. Well after searching and searching, I came across this bad boy and for $35.99 it seemed to be a good deal and promised to take care of some of the "tasks" I needed taking care of. I finally got to using it and lets just say I am amazed. The Phillips Bodygroom lives up to its name.

I have never been so pleased with an impulse buy. The bodygroom is lightweight, sleek, easy to clean, and best of all waterproof. Its powerful enough to get those sensitive areas without harming them. It also leads to very very very minimal irritation, if any. Charges on its own little stand and has plenty of battery life. I really cant say that there is anything wrong with this at all. They even have an amusingly awesome website which will get you for a laugh or two. I highly recommend the music video.

I suggest each one of you go get one of these, for yourself, your boyfriends, your husbands, hell get one for your dad. Its one present that will be used, enjoyed, and appreciated. Now if only I can figure out how to get my back...

Drastic Decision

I have decided that I will not shave my facial hair nor cut my hair till at least January 1, 2008.

Pats V. Colts

Cant believe it's tomorrow. Finally the Colts will show everyone who the real threat to go 16-0 is. I'm getting sick and tired of the cleft chin motherfucker Tom Brady and his pretty ass self. When he made the cover of GQ I honestly had to rethink ever reading GQ ever again. I'm proud to say that that is the 1 issue I do not own. The Patriots are a bunch of assholes whom enjoy running up the score on anyone just to pad their stats. They have a coach who looks like a bum, dresses like a bum, and steals like a bum, face it Bill is a bum. Fuck the Pats and everyone who likes them, the AFC East is all about the Buffalo Bills. The Colts, now theres a real team...a team then when they are on the 1 yard line they will run the ball in rather than run a pass play just so Brady can pad his stats. Peyton Manning is a 10x better quarterback than Tom Brady, and most importantly he has class which is hard to find these days.

I cant wait to hear who Tom Brady blames for them losing tomorrow, I'm calling it 55-35 Colts!

Best Buy

So when did Best Buy become a car dealership? Can someone please tell me this? I walk into Best Buy for the second time in a week and for the second time I am overly harassed by employees to the point where I do not want to be there. I remember when we used to go to Best Buy, the guys and I, when there was nothing to do. We would waste time there, browsing through everything, playing video games as we please and not being bothered by anyone. That's not the case anymore apparently. I cant even look through cd's without someone coming up and asking if I need help with anything. Then as soon as he walks away another guy comes up and asks if I need help. When I say "no" he says "ok well let anyone of us know if you need any help, and fyi we have a great sale on our 42" Sony Bravia LCD right now." Yes he did actually say "FYI". Who the fuck does this guy think he is, I'm looking at cd's and he starts trying to pitch me on a tv...now a sound system or a cd player I can understand...but a tv?

I decide to leave the cd's and look at dvd's when I'm quickly informed that if I purchase Spider man 3, I can get my choice of 1 of 20 dvd's for only $5 more. 2 minutes later, the first person who asked if I needed help came back and asked if "I was still doing alright". In the 20minutes I was in there 9 people came up to me, 1 twice. I hate to say it but I think Best Buy may be losing my business, I only expect to be jumped at like that when I'm buying a car, and theres no cars at Best Buy. After all was said and done I walked out of there with somewhat cold Fanta Orange soda and a brand new cd "Masters of Acoustic Guitar", wish I would have saved the soda, then I could have enjoyed them both together. oh well
